Game Preview: Utah Jazz vs Phoenix Suns
The Utah Jazz play host to the Phoenix Suns at the Vivint Arena on Friday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their last seven games, but they will be feeling a little better after taking down the Warriors in a 130-119 home win on Wednesday. Cameron Payne led the way with 29 points and seven assists on nine of 17 shooting, Devin Booker added 27 points with nine assists while Mikal Bridges tallied 23 points with nine rebounds and nine assists. As a team, the Suns shot 51 percent from the field and a sizzling 21 of 40 from the 3-point line as they poured in 72 points in the first half and they kept their foot on the gas till the end. Defensively, the Suns did a great job on every Warriors player except for Stephen Curry who torched them for 50 points.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have won six of their past 10 games overall, but they will be hoping to arrest a three-game skid after falling short to the Knicks in a 118-111 loss on Tuesday. Kelly Olynyk led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds, Jordan Clarkson added 15 points with five assists while Lauri Markkanen chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Jazz shot 43 percent from the field and 14 of 43 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to claw their way back from a 14-point deficit, only to let it slip in the fourth quarter where the Knicks exploded for 35 points to pull away in the end.
The Suns are keeping an eye on Josh Okogie and Chris Paul who are both listed as questionable, while the Jazz are just about at full strength except for Rudy Gay who is still out. The Suns have been below their best lately, but they would’ve gained so much confidence from their gritty win over the Warriors. The Jazz have quickly emerged as one of the surprise teams of the league but they’ve cooled off with three losses in a row. This should be a close contest, but the Suns are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and I think that trend continues here as the Suns stay hot with another win.
