Game Preview: Dallas Mavericks vs. Detroit Pistons
The Dallas Mavericks head to Detroit to take on the Pistons on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Dallas is coming off a thrilling win over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. Detroit, meanwhile, was blown out by the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
Mavericks Snap Losing Skid
Dallas entered its game at home against Golden State on a four-game losing skid and early on it appeared the streak would end as they led 36-24 after the first quarter but were then outscored 30-19 in the second. The game was back-and-forth and a missed three by the Warriors at the end sealed the victory. In the game, they were led by Luka Doncic who had a triple-triple with 41 points and 12 rebounds, and 12 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 22 points while Spencer Dinwiddie and Josh Green chipped in with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Mavericks are currently 10-10 and in the 10th in the West as they have struggled offensively as they average just 109.4 PPG which ranks 25th. Defensively, however, they are allowing just 107.6 which ranks fourth in the NBA. As a team, they are led by Doncic who is averaging 33.5 PPG while Dinwiddie is averaging 17, Christian Wood is averaging 16.3, and Hardaway Jr. is chipping in with 10.8. As a team, they shoot 46.7% from the field and 34.4% from three.
Dallas is listing Kemba Walker and McKinley Wright IV as day-to-day.
Pistons Last In The NBA
Detroit was expected to make some big improvements this season but that is far from the case as they are 5-18 and dead last in the NBA. In their last game against the Knicks, they were blown out 140-110 as they trailed 70-56 at the half and then were outscored 38-21 to really secure the game. In the loss, they were led by Isaiah Stewart who had 19 points while Bojan Bogdanovic and Marvin Bagley III had 13. Meanwhile, Jalen Duren had 12 points while Cory Joseph, Saddiq Bey, and Killian Hayes all had 11 points.
The Pistons has struggled offensively this season as they are averaging just 109.1 PPG which ranks 27th while defensively they are allowing 117.7 which is 29th. As a team, they are shooting just 44.3% from the field which ranks 29th, and 33.2% from three. Meanwhile, they have been led by Bogdanovic who’s averaging 20.3 PPG while Cade Cunninghman is chipping in with 19.9 points and Jaden Ivey is averaging 16.2.
Detroit will be without Cunningham and Ivey while Nerlens Noel is day-to-day.
