Game Preview: Pacers vs. Warriors
Indiana Pacers (12-10) vs. Golden State Warriors (13-11)
The NBA betting action continues with an eight-game Monday slate including the cross-conference showdown between the Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors at Chase Center in San Francisco, California, with the tip-off at 10:00 PM ET.
Indiana and Golden State meet for the first time this season after splitting a two-game set in 2021-22. The Warriors are without Andre Iguodala, who’s recovering from a hip injury, while the Pacers miss Daniel Theis (knee) and Chris Duarte (ankle).
The Pacers wrap up a back-to-back set
Sunday’s games have been excluded from this preview, and the 12-10 Indiana Pacers were looking to snap their two-game skid in a road matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. It was their fifth consecutive outing away from home, and in the previous two showings, the Pacers have suffered a couple of heavy losses at Sacramento 137-114 and Utah 139-119.
Last Wednesday, Indiana allowed the Kings to make 50.5% of their field goals and score a whopping 31 fast-break points. A couple of days later, the Jazz dropped 75 first-half points on the Pacers, finishing with 55.4% shooting from the field.
“We just played into their hands,” Indiana center Myles Turner said after a tough night in Salt Lake City. “I think they want you to try to take that first available shot as opposed to get your second or third action. I think we let them off the hook quite a bit.”
Myles Turner had 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field against Utah, while Tyrese Haliburton added 14 points and four assists. Haliburton suffered a groin injury and was questionable to play Sunday versus Portland. He’s been the Pacers’ best player so far this season, tallying 19.1 points and 10.9 assists per contest.
The Warriors shoot for their third straight win
The Golden State Warriors (13-11; 11-13 ATS) are coming off a 120-101 thrashing of the Houston Rockets this past Saturday. It was their second win in a row and the fifth in six games. The reigning NBA champions dominated Houston wire-to-wire, making 52.9% of their field goals and 48.1% from beyond the 3-point line (25-for-52).
The Warriors handed out 34 assists last Saturday, but they also allowed 14 offensive rebounds and 72 points in the paint. Andrew Wiggins went off for 36 points on 14-for-19 shooting from the field, while Stephen Curry made eight of his 17 attempts from deep, finishing with 30 points and ten assists.
“It was a phenomenal first 18 minutes, I thought that was maybe the best stretch we’ve had all year to start the game and then halfway through the second quarter, maybe eight minutes left in the second quarter we didn’t have any turnovers, we had like 16 assists, we were defending, rebounding, doing everything right and then we just lost our focus,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “That’s our biggest challenge right now is trying to maintain our focus long enough to not give up leads and allow teams back in and I thought that’s what happened tonight.”
The Warriors’ offense has improved over the last few weeks. Now, Golden State is scoring 114.1 points per 100 possessions (8th in the NBA) on 48.4% shooting from the field (tied-5th) and 38.2% from downtown (4th). The Dubs pace the NBA in 3-point attempts per 100 possessions (42.3) and assists per game (30.0).
