Game Preview: Rockets vs 76ers

On Monday night, the Philadelphia 76ers travel to the Toyota Center for a road clash with the Houston Rockets. The 76ers fell 117-109 on the road to the Memphis Grizzlies in their last game. The Rockets were blown out 120-101 against the Golden State Warriors. The tip-off is slated for 8:10 PM ET. Philadelphia opens as a road favorite.

76ers Lose in Memphis
The Philadelphia 76ers had a fourth-quarter flurry but it was not enough to come back against the Memphis Grizzlies as they lost 117-109. Joel Embiid had 35 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists for Philadelphia. Tobias Harris added 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Shake Milton chipped in 17 points and six assists. The Grizzlies led by 18 early in the fourth, but the 76ers managed to crawl back. Both teams were coming off poor performances in Wednesday night losses. Philadelphia lost to Cleveland by 28 points, while Memphis lost to Minnesota. ”We had too many spurts where we weren’t the physical team,” said Tobias Harris after the game to Associated Press reporters. ”Didn’t get the 50-50 balls and they killed us on the boards to create extra possessions.”
Harris, who was questionable before the game with a non-COVID illness, started for Philly and nailed five three-pointers. They have been a mediocre, up-and-down team without James Harden in the lineup, and he is not expected to be back for at least the next week and a half. They are hovering a game above the .500 mark, and as long as they do not suffer a major meltdown, they are in the thick of it.

Rockets Blown Out by Warriors
Houston opened the first quarter trailing by 15 and could not muster enough offense on the second night of a back-to-back in a 120-101 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Kevin Porter Jr. scored 20 points and Tari Eason contributed 13 off the bench for Houston. Jalen Green added 13 points but missed all five of his attempts from long range a night after the 20-year-old guard had 30 to help fuel a 16-point comeback in the second half of a shocking 122-121 win at Phoenix.
The Rockets were slow from the get-go in this one. The Warriors raced to a 22-4 lead, making their initial seven shots, as Houston began 2 for 11. They finished a paltry 3 for 28 from beyond the arc in the first half. Houston lost its fourth straight on the Warriors’ home floor and eighth in a row overall in the series, dating to a 135-105 win on Feb. 20, 2020. Houston has lost 10 of their first 12 road games this season facing Western Conference opponents. They enter this matchup with a 6-17 record and find themselves at the bottom of the conference.
