Phoenix Suns fall to Denver Nuggets in overtime
DENVER – Phoenix Suns got their franchise guy back – for the first four minutes and 20 seconds of Sunday’s Christmas game at Denver.
Devin Booker injured his left groin after missing previous three games with groin soreness.
The Suns proceeded to fall behind by as many as 15 points in the first quarter.
So much for having that edge to start the game, but Monty Williams said something in his pregame that ultimately played out in Phoenix’s favor.
“I’m not one to blame it on injuries and all that other stuff,” he said. “The guys who step on the floor got to go after it. That’s something that we haven’t seen consistently in the past three to four weeks.”
Phoenix got after it, but still came up short.
Nikola Jokic delivered an epic Christmas triple double of 41 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in leading West-leader Denver (21-11) to a classic 128-of-125 overtime win over Phoenix before a sellout crowd of 19,632 at Ball Arena.
Landry Shamet tied his career-high with 31 points, hitting 7-of-17 from 3, to lead the Suns (19-15).
