Game Preview: Thunder vs Hornets

The Oklahoma City Thunder (15-19, 21-13 ATS, 20-14 O/U) meet with the Charlotte Hornets (9-26, 15-17-3 ATS, 18-16 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Thursday night. The Thunder posted a home win against the Spurs on Tuesday. The Hornets were hit with a road loss against Golden State in their previous action. Charlotte went 2-0 against Oklahoma City last season.

Thunder Beat Spurs in 4th Win in Last 5 Games
The Oklahoma City Thunder are enjoying their best stretch of the season. They have now recorded the win in four out of their last five games propelled by a barrage of scoring. This includes a win against the Grizzlies and the only defeat in that span was an overtime home loss against the Pelicans. The Thunder were 6.5 point favorites in a 130-114 home win against the Spurs on Tuesday night. The Hornets have covered the spread in four out of their last five clashes.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to dominate. The 24-year-old point guard has eclipsed 30 points in four out of his last six clashes after scoring 28 on Tuesday. Gilgeous-Alexander has increased his season average to 31.5 PPG and 5.6 APG. Josh Giddey scored 20 points in the win against the Pelicans. The 20-year-old shooting guard has two double-doubles in his last four games and is posting an average of 14.6 PPG along with 5.5 RPG. Luguentz Dort accrued nine points on Tuesday. The 23-year-old guard has been inconsistent in the offensive end and has filed an average of 13.6 PPG on 40% shooting. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is out of action.

The Thunder have lost three consecutive road games to fall to 2-3 in their last five road bouts. Oklahoma City has recorded at least 115 points in four out of their last five games and is now averaging 115.8 points on the year, good for ninth in the league. The defense has displayed improvement recently. They are conceding an average of 116.8 points, placing them 25th.

Hornets Return Home After Long Road Trip
The Charlotte Hornets are glad to be at home after a challenging six-game road trek. They recorded a 2-4 record in the six games, beating the Kings and Lakers. Charlotte was dealt a defeat against Portland on the 26th and was labeled five-point dogs in a 110-105 loss at Golden State on Tuesday night. The Hornets are now 2-8 in their last ten games and have covered the spread in just one out of their last four games.

LaMelo Ball has been contributing several points but has shot below 41% in four straight games. The 21-year-old point guard scored 21 points in Tuesday’s loss to Golden State and has recorded an average of 23.5 PPG and 7.5 APG. Kelly Oubre Jr. did not play on Tuesday due to a hand injury and is questionable. The 27-year-old shooting guard is needed in the lineup considering the Hornets scoring issues. Oubre Jr. has posted an average of 22.1 points this month and 20.6 PPG and 5.2 RPG on the year. Terry Rozier has reached 19 points in two out of his last three clashes. The veteran shooting guard has logged an average of 20.3 PPG.

The Hornets haven’t enjoyed any success at home recently. They have lost six consecutive home bouts, covering in just one game in that span. Charlotte has not been able to find any sort of groove offensively. They are averaging 111.2 points, pegging them 24th, and are last in field goal efficiency. The Hornets are conceding an average of 118 points, pegging them 28th in the NBA.
