Converge continue to fight for spot in the Top 4, faces Blackwater
Still right there in the lead pack despite a stumble the last time out, Converge is determined to pick itself up and and continue the fight for a spot in the Top Four.
Barely beaten at endgame by the NLEX Road Warriors, 116-112, the FiberXers are fancied to quickly get back on track versus the slumping Blackwater Bossing in their Thursday setto in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Jamaal Franklin bombed away nine three-pointers to highlight a 53-point sizzler while Maverick Ahanmisi fired four treys and a total of 22 markers in a fiery shootout versus the Road Warriors that they barely lost at the finish.
Coach Aldin Ayo couldn’t ask for more from the FiberXers as they just came up short of their bid with several personnel hit by early fouls.
And more importantly, they’re very much right there in the mix, within striking distance of the pacesetting TNT Tropang Giga (8-1) and the San Miguel Beermen (7-2) with their 5-2 win-loss slate.
But Franklin and his teammates must recover from that loss right away and be steadier in their last four games if they’re to finish in the Top Four and reward themselves a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals.
Their last four assignments are the Bossing, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, the Meralco Bolts and the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings.
The Bossing, meanwhile, are now virtually fighting for dear life at 1-7.
They play Converge (Thursday) and NorthPort (Saturday) in three nights before closing their elims stint versus the Magnolia Hotshots on March 8.
Having snapped a league record slump in their final game last season, the Bossing are back on a woeful skid.
They have yet to come out of the rut even with the entry of import Troy Williams in lieu of Shawn Glover.
