The Celtics will be without Malcolm Brogdon for the second straight game on Sunday night against the Knicks due to a sore ankle. He was originally ruled questionable by the team before being downgraded hours before tip. Boston will also be without Robert Williams (hamstring) and Danilo Gallinari (torn ACL) for the matchup against the Atlantic Division rival.

“I do know he’s done a great job this year getting to a point where he is healthy and he is on the floor and working through stuff,” Joe Mazzulla said of Williams, who is expected back in 7-10 days. “So I trust he’ll be able to do that for this, as well.”

The Celtics struggled mightily without Brogdon offensively against the Nets on Friday night, which contributed to the team blowing a 28-point lead in the defeat. Brogdon has been a dependable reserve for Joe Mazzulla during his first year in Boston, having played in 54 games averaging 14.6 points while shooting a career-high 46 percent from 3-point range.

With Brogdon and Robert Williams sidelined, the Celtics will look to the bench for more reinforcements against a red-hot Knicks team that has won nine straight games. Payton Pritchard saw eight minutes off the bench in the team’s loss to the Nets on Friday night and could see another chance after Joe Mazzulla saw his team’s offense flounder.

With Williams out of the fold as well, Grant Williams, Blake Griffin, Luke Kornet or Mike Muscala could return to a starting role against a Knicks frontcourt with serious size at power forward and center.
