Warriors Give Key Update On Andre Iguodala’s Status

Andre Iguodala decided to return to the Golden State Warriors this season for one last year in the NBA and while he has not played much, Iguodala remains a key veteran presence and leader for this dynasty.

While the Warriors would love to have Iguodala on the floor in certain roles, the 39-year-old has not played since March 13 due to a fractured left wrist. Undergoing surgery on his wrist on March 20, Golden State released a statement on the veteran’s status Saturday afternoon, giving a glimpse as to if he would be able to return at all if the team was to go on a deep postseason run.

Warriors PR: “Warriors forward Andre Iguodala, who suffered a fractured left wrist on March 13 against the Phoenix Suns, had the splint on his left wrist removed last week. He has started progressive rehab of the wrist and could be cleared to begin light ball handling and shooting drills in the next 7-10 days. He will be re-evaluated again in two (2) weeks.”

This is certainly a positive update for the Warriors and Andre Iguodala, but his return this year still seems very much up-in-the-air with things looking doubtful as of right now.

Finishing up his 19th NBA season this year, Iguodala will certainly have his jersey retired by the Warriors, as he was a part of all four championship teams since the 2014-15 season. In fact, Iguodala was named the 2014-15 Finals MVP during the team’s first championship run this past decade.

Known for being an athletic forward who has always focused his skills on the defensive-side of the floor, the Warriors would not be known for their four championships without Andre Iguodala.

For his career, Iguodala has averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 33.0 percent from three-point range.

The Warriors are currently in the midst of a battle in their first-round series against the Sacramento Kings, as they are down 1-2 in this series with Game 4 being played on Sunday afternoon in Chase Center.

Should Golden State advance past Sacramento, Iguodala will remain out for the team’s potential Western Conference Semifinals series, but should he continue to progress with no setbacks, there is still an outside chance that Andre Iguodala could return for the Western Conference Finals or 2023 NBA Finals.

As things stand right now though, it does appear as if Iguodala has played his final NBA game.
