Celtics’ Derrick White on Injury Report vs. 76ers
For the first time since the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics will battle it out for a meaningful matchup.
Although the Sixers and the Celtics double-dipped with preseason battles, Wednesday night offers the first of four honest looks at Philly and Boston during the regular season.
Heading into the matchup, both teams are relatively healthy. However, the Celtics have their veteran guard Derrick White on the injury report as he’s dealing with a personal matter.
When the Celtics first placed White on the injury report due to personal reasons, he was questionable to face the 76ers. As of Wednesday morning, White has already seen his status upgraded.
Barring any unexpected setbacks, White is on pace to face the Sixers, as he’s been labeled as probable for the matchup.
For the Celtics, that’s a good sign, as White’s off to a hot start to the year. During Boston’s opening four matchups, White averaged 30 minutes on the floor. Although he’s shooting at a low volume, playing alongside some of the NBA’s most notable stars, White has been quite efficient.
Shooting 65 percent from the field and knocking down 58 percent of his threes on five attempts from beyond the arc per game, White is averaging 16 points currently. In addition, he’s coming down with four rebounds, dishing out four assists, snatching one steal, and blocking one shot per game.
The veteran guard missed Boston’s previous two matchups, one win against the Brooklyn Nets and a five-point loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which happened to be their first defeat of the season.
When the Sixers and the Celtics meet on Wednesday, both teams hold the same 5-1 record, with the Sixers being on a five-game win streak. While both teams find themselves at the top of the Eastern Conference’s early standings, somebody’s got to take a dip on Wednesday night.
