Philadelphia 76ers beats Detroit Pistons at their home with 129-111 victory

Coming off their blowout win over the Washington Wizards Monday, the Philadelphia 76ers hit the road to face off against the Detroit Pistons. Thanks to another dominant performance from one of their stars, they were able to keep their winning streak going.

Thanks to a strong start from Joel Embiid, the Sixers were able to get out to a big lead early. From there, they never let their foot up off the gas. In the end, the Sixers were able to rest their stars for a majority of the fourth quarter. When the final buzzer sounded, the Sixers took home a 129-111 victory.

Here are some takeaways from the Sixers’ second straight blowout win:

Rare off night from Tyrese Maxey

Through the first quarter of the season, Tyrese Maxey has been in the midst of a breakout year. That said, Wednesday against the Pistons was by far his most lackluster showing of the year.

Maxey still managed to have a good night running the offense but wasn’t much of a scoring threat. He finished with just 9 points on 2-for-13 shooting to go along with four rebounds and nine assists.

The Sixers were able to fill the void left by Maxey’s off night, so it didn’t end up doing much harm. Based on his play as a whole this season, this performance can be considered a one-off situation. The regular season is long, and all players are bound to have a cold night shooting the ball.

Kelly Oubre looks to be returning to form

Before getting injured, Kelly Oubre was looking like one of the top signings of the offseason. Now that he’s had a few games to get his legs back under him, the veteran forward appears to be picking up where he left off.

Oubre logged 21 minutes in the win and finished with 17 points, three rebounds, one assists, and two steals. It was also an efficient shooting night for him, converting seven of his nine attempts.

With Nic Batum proving to be a complementary fit, Oubre likely won’t slide back into the starting lineup. However, this showing is a good sign that he’ll be able to continue providing an offensive punch for the second unit.

Joel Embiid continues his offensive dominance

The biggest takeaway from this matchup was the dominant play of Joel Embiid. Detroit was without a pair of their bigs, and the Sixers star made the most of their limited frontcourt.

From the opening tip, Embiid left his mark all over the game. In only 31 minutes of action, he finished with 41 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. The reigning MVP shot a stellar 58.3% of the field and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.

It’s easy for stars to take it easy against a lowly opponent on a losing streak, but that wasn’t the case here. Embiid continues to show he is locked in on a nightly basis and continues to play his way into the MVP conversation yet again.
