Game Preview: Memphis Grizzlies vs Orlando Magic
Memphis Remains at the Bottom in Scoring
The Memphis Grizzlies are returning home after their win on Wednesday against the Miami Heat with a final score of 105-96. Memphis is only averaging 107.8 points per game this season, placing themselves last in the league. They remain at the bottom of the league in scoring due to their inefficiency around the paint with them averaging the least amount of field goals per game. Despite their difficulties on offense, the Grizzlies do rank ninth overall in three pointers made per game, averaging 13.6 three pointers per game.
Memphis on defense has been playing average this season with them allowing 112.9 points per game. The Grizzlies are allowing the fourth worst opponent shooting percentage at the three point line. Although they have poor defense at the three point line, Memphis ranks fourth in opponent field goal attempts and 7th in field goals made against them.
The Memphis Grizzlies are already struggling on offense and now they are without Ja Morant for the rest of the season and Desmond Bane is out until late February with an ankle injury. Ja Morant leads the team in scoring at 25.1 points per game and Desmond Bane is second in scoring averaging 24.4 points per game.
Orlando Relying on Defense
The Orlando Magic are traveling to Memphis after their loss on Monday against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a final score of 99-126. Orlando is struggling on offense and has only won their games due to their defense this season. Orlando is ranked seventh overall in points allowed per game, allowing only 111.2 points per game. Where they are succeeding on defense is mainly around the paint with them allowing the least amount of field goal attempts per game this season. Orlando is also sixth overall in three pointers allowed per game.
The Magic on offense however is where they fail. Orlando is averaging only 111.4 points per game, placing them 25th in the league. The Magic are ranked last in three pointer shooting percentage and three pointers made per game. Even inside the three point line the Magic are ranking 27th in the NBA in both field goal attempts and field goals made per game.
