Washington Wizards Hoping to Earn Rare Road Victory
Washington lost their third straight and sixth in the last seven games as they were beaten on the road by Toronto in their previous contest Sunday night. The Wizards fell to 15-64 on the season, setting a franchise record for losses, and are last in the Southeast Division, 31.5 games off the pace. They have long been eliminated from playoff contention. Against Toronto, Washington was down as many as 29 in the opening quarter and by 25 at the end of one. The Wizards cut the lead to 13 at the half and managed to claw within five with 25.2 seconds remaining though that was as close as they could get. Washington shot 47.2% from the field, including 16 of 40 from three-point range, but allowed Toronto to shoot 51% in the game. Deni Avidja paced the Wizards with 32 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the loss.
On the season, the Wizards are 17th in the league in scoring offense with 113.4 points per game. Washington is 30th in rebounding by grabbing 38.3 boards a night while they stand 9th in assists by dishing out 27.8 dimes a contest. The Wizards are 30th in scoring defense by allowing 122.8 points per game. Kyle Kuzma leads the team as he averages 22.2 points plus 6.6 rebounds per contest this season. Jordan Poole (17.3 points, 4.4 assists), Deni Avidja (14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds) and Tyus Jones (12 points, 7.3 assists) each average in double figures. Corey Kispert (13.2 points), Johnny Davis, Eugene Omoruyi, Bilal Coulibaly, Ryan Rollins, Richaun Holmes, Marvin Bagley III (11.7 points, 6.2 rebounds), Landry Shamet, Isaiah Livers and Delon Wright are key pieces of the rotation for coach Brian Keefe. Washington is 17th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.9% from the floor as a team. The Wizards are 21st in threes per game as they drain 12.2 triples per contest and they stand 30th in three-point shooting by connecting on 34.5% of their attempts from beyond the arc.
Livers (hip) last played on January 21 and is out indefinitely. Coulibaly (wrist) is done for the season. Shamet (calf), Bagley III (knee), Holmes (toe) and Jones (back) are each out indefinitely.
