Andrew Wiggins Stellar in Warriors’ Win Over Sixers
The Warriors led by as many as 30 points — their largest lead of the season — en route to a 127-104 victory over the 76ers in Philadelphia on Wednesday. Andrew Wiggins led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds and was a plus-17 in 23 minutes. Jonathan Kuminga and Klay Thompson each added 18 points, with Thompson leading the team in plus-minus (+24). Every available Warrior played and scored.
REMARKABLE SECOND QUARTER TURNAROUND
The Warriors scored just 15 points in the first quarter — tied for their lowest scoring output in any quarter all season. However, they turned the tide in the second quarter, taking the lead with a 16-5 run that began with 10 straight points. Lester Quinones scored seven points during the run, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, as he’s found a consistent spot in the rotation during this road trip. Despite two points and zero made field goals from 10-time All-Star Stephen Curry, the Warriors led by three at halftime (48-45).
WIGGINS IN ATTACK MODE
After missing the last game with an ankle injury, Andrew Wiggins made his presence felt early and often on Wednesday. In the first half, Wiggins was tied for the game-high in scoring (11 points) while leading in made field goals (6) and rebounds (6). He was also impactful defensively with a steal and a block, while being the primary defender on first-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey, who scored just five points in the half.
Wiggins finished as the only player to eclipse 20 points (21), while leading the game in made field goals (9). He also didn’t commit a single turnover.
20-POINT THIRD QUARTER ADVANTAGE
The Warriors scored 43 points in the third quarter and outscored the 76ers by 20 points in the frame. Andrew Wiggins led the way with 10 points in the quarter, while the Splash Brothers combined for 15 points (8 for Thompson, 7 for Curry). The Warriors were particularly successful from behind the arc, hitting six of their seven attempts from deep and only committing one turnover.
FINDING THEIR PERIMETER SHOT
Stephen Curry was the only Warrior to make a 3-pointer against the Nets on Monday. On Wednesday however, he made just one of their 16 3-pointers, with Klay Thompson and Lester Quinones each hitting four treys. The Warriors doubled up the Sixers in made threes 16-8.
