Game Preview: Hornets vs Nets
The Charlotte Hornets head to Brooklyn to play the Nets at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Charlotte is coming off a 119-117 loss to the LA Clippers on Monday. Brooklyn, meanwhile, is coming off a 103-92 loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
Hornets Miserable On The Road
Charlotte is currently 7-17 this season and in 13th place in the East as they are a terrible 3-9 on the road this season. This season, the Hornets have been terrible offensively as they are averaging just 109.3 PPG which ranks 26th while their offensive rating is 107.4 which ranks 30th in the league. Defensively, Charlotte is allowing 115.1 PPG which ranks 20th with a defensive rating of 113.2 which ranks 21st. As a team, they shoot 44.4% from the field and 32.1% from three – which ranks 29th and 29th, respectively.
In the Hornets’ last game against the Clippers, they used a massive third quarter – outscoring them 36-21 but then were outscored 35-27 to lose the game. They were led by Kelly Oubre Jr. who dropped 28 points while PJ Washington had 26 and Terry Rozier had 22. Off the bench, Nick Richards had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Charlotte will be without LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, Cody Martin, and Dennis Smith Jr., while Mark Williams is day-to-day.
Nets Had Four-Game Win Streak Snapped
Brooklyn entered its home game against the Boston Celitcs on a four-game winning streak but they struggled out of the gate and were down 62-50 at the half and couldn’t close the gap in the second half. In the game, they were led by Kevin Durant who had 31 points while Kyrie Irving had 18 points, Joe Harris added 13 points and Nic Claxton chipped in with 9 points and 14 rebounds.
The Nets are currently in sixth in the East with a record of 13-12 and are 8-5 at home while in their last 10 games they are 7-3 which has brought them out of that play-in area. This season, they are averaging just 110.9 PPG which ranks 20th while they allow 110.1 which is ninth in the NBA as they are solid defensively. They have been led by Durant who’s averaging 29.9 PPG while Irving is averaging 24.4 and Claxton is averaging 11.8 who are the only three players to be averaging over 10 points.
Brooklyn will be without Ben Simmons, Yuta Watanabe, and Alondes Williams while Edmond Sumner is day-to-day.
