Game Preview: Jazz vs Spurs
The NBA betting action goes on Saturday, February 25, with the San Antonio Spurs taking on the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference showdown at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
San Antonio is still missing Devin Vassell, who’s recovering from a knee injury, while Jeremy Sochan, Isaiah Roby, Tre Jones, and Khem Birch are all questionable to play against Utah. On the other side, the Jazz are without Collin Sexton, while Kelly Olynyk is listed as questionable.
The Spurs are slumping big time
The San Antonio Spurs are on a 15-game losing streak following Thursday’s 142-116 defeat at the Dallas Mavericks. It’s the longest losing run in franchise history, as the Spurs obviously want to have the best chances to land the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
San Antonio made 52.3% of its field goals against the Mavs. The Spurs went 10-for-25 from downtown but couldn’t stop a nosebleed. Rookie Malaki Branham led San Antonio with 23 points and five assists, while Keldon Johnson had 22 points, eight rebounds, and seven dishes.
“It’s definitely tough, two of the best iso guys in the league on the same team,” Branham said. “Played them solidly and made them kick out to other players. The other players made shots.”
The Spurs are 14th in the Western Conference and own the second-worst record in the NBA. They score 110.4 points per 100 possessions (28th in the NBA) and surrender 120.7 points in return (30th). The Spurs are dead last in the league in opposing field goal percentage (51.0%).
The Jazz beat OKC to stop a three-game slide at home
The Utah Jazz (30-31; 33-28 ATS) have been pretty inconsistent lately, going 5-5 SU in their last ten games overall. Last Thursday, they stopped a three-game losing streak at home, outlasting the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-119 in overtime.
Lauri Markkanen dropped 43 points on the Thunder, including three free throws with 4.6 seconds remaining in overtime. Jordan Clarkson notched 24 points and six assists, while rookie Walker Kessler posted a line of seven points, 18 rebounds, and seven blocks.
“He’s played with a tremendous amount of aggressiveness,” Jazz coach Will Hardy said of Markkanen. “His physicality has gone up as the season has gone on.”
The Jazz continue to chase the playoffs in the West. They are the No. 9 seed at the moment, just half a game ahead of the No. 11 Oklahoma City. The Jazz score 117.0 points per 100 possessions (tied-4th in the NBA) and allow 116.6 points in return (26th).
