Game Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers vs Memphis Grizzlies
The Los Angeles Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 series lead with a convincing win over the second seeded Memphis Grizzlies in game one of their best-of-seven series on Sunday in Memphis. Now the Grizzlies face a must win in game two on Wednesday night in Memphis. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. EDT at the Fedex Forum in Memphis.
Hachimura leads Lakers to Game 1 win
The Los Angeles Lakers took control of the series by winning on the road in game one. They got some big games out of their role players, most notably Rui Hachimura, who they picked up mid season from the Wizards. Hachimura had his best game in purple and gold, dropping a team-high 29 points in the 128-112 Lakers win. He drained five of six from three point range, and each seemed to be at crucial time in a game that was close up until the final few minutes.
The other clutch performer for LA was Austin Reaves, who has been quite a find for coach Darvin Ham. Reaves dropped 23 points and dished out 4 assists. he also had three 3 pointers. Anthony Davis added 22 points and 12 rebounds while LeBron James added 21 points and 11 boards. D’Angelo Russell chipped in with 19 points and 7 assists. Davis got banged up during the game and left for a few minutes, but he was back on the floor in the second half and is not on the injury report.
Grizzlies have issues
Not only are the Grizzlies facing a resurgent Lakers team that most pundits think is far better than their 7th seed would indicate, they might be doing it without their best player, Ja Morant. The Grizzlies fell in game 1 to the Lakers at home, 128-112. They went into that game with some injury concerns, and they left that game with even bigger injury issues. Late in the game on Sunday, Morant injured his wrist when he fell wrong on it after taking the ball to the hole.
Morant did not return to the game, missing almost the final 6 minutes of a close game, that turned into an easy Lakers win. And his status is questionable for Wednesday, although he did not sound very positive in the post-game press conference about his status. We shall see — this is obviously a huge factor in game 2. It also doesn’t help that two of their best bigs, Steven Adams and Brendan Clarke are out for the season. Morant had 18 points when he exited the game. Jaren Jackson, who was named Defensive Player of the Year on Monday, led the way with 31 points and 2 blocked shots, while Desmond Bane added 22 points,.
